Inspired by Dr. Richard Thain‘s work to defend his right to the fundamental human right to the freedom of expression, HumanistFreedoms.com was created in 2019 to celebrate contemporary applied humanism. Each year since then, the HumanistFreedoms.com website has continued modest but continuous growth and was recognized in 2022 as one of the Top 15 Humanist blogs in the world.
The Humanist Freedoms news blog features news, essays, criticism, fiction, and commentary about contemporary applied humanism. We celebrate our common humanity.
In 2023, we are upping our game by adding the Humanist Heritage Canada brand to the website. As Humanist Heritage Canada, we will be documenting and telling the stories of humanism in Canada and from a Canadian perspective.
Our Inspiration
Freedom makes a huge requirement of every human being. With freedom comes responsibility. For the person who is unwilling to grow up, the person who does not want to carry his own weight, this is a frightening prospect.
Eleanor Roosevelt
Societies that stress uniqueness and individuality and that provide fertile terrain for friendship based on the personal and specific can actually be where our common humanity is more easily recognized.
Nicholas A. Christakis
Recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.
